araSo, I have a billion and one writing projects at the moment, but not really any graphics ones. Guess how I relax from writing and get re-motivated? That's right: graphics. I feel this must be recitified.

Date: 2010-06-19 09:29 pm (UTC)You can use a header without a paid account! (If you see things saying you can't, that's from back in the day, before LJ reworked their account levels and such.) You can have a whole custom layout without a paid account ^_^
Layout making - well it's not ~hard~ per say. It depends on a couple things, like how comfortable you are with CSS, how computer-proficient you tend to be, how complicated of a layout are you making, etc. There are excellent tutorials out there that really break down the different layout parts, and tons for CSS, layout specific and general. So over all, I'd say it's more a time investment than anything?

Date: 2010-06-19 09:44 pm (UTC)And adding a header just requires sticking in a little snippet of code into the Custom CSS box in Customize Layout. What exactly it is depends on the layout you're using and the size of the header :)

*preferred colors/color scheme
*what do you absolutely DNW or don't like
*preferences on a sidebar vs. topbar, what sidebar pieces do you need, if any

Date: 2010-06-19 09:31 pm (UTC)Have a look at mine, I like it, its simple, pretty, but the buttons are boxey and horrible now i use google chrome, I'd love soemthing pink/grey pretty, feminine, i rarely a header with my default journal now so if you're any good at like adding swirls and interesting little bits to the topbar (id prefer a top bar to a side bar) instead of a header then that'd be good.... =D
Hoping you're able to make this, i really wish i understood codes and could make layouts but its all gibberish to me .. if you cant make it dont worry :)
