The Big Move aka Why Dreamwidth is Awesome

In keeping with my geekliness and support of awesome open source communities, I am making the switch to Dreamwidth! If you don't know what that is...I suggest going to their FAQ and starting to read, then going to their wiki and reading anything that looks interesting. Seriously. If you want to know how excited I am about it, check out my posts here and here.
My new account for FF is ara.
So what does this mean for this journal and my LJ network? Well, luckily Dreamwidth is committed to interoperability. The current plan is to crosspost (aka mirror entries on this journal and on my DW one). This means all entries will be posted here too for you to see and read. However, posts here will be comment-locked, because having 2 comment threads going would be awkward to say the least. So, to comment on my posts, you'll need to use the link I include at the bottom of posts to go to my DW journal. You won't need to log in to comment.
However, the better news: Like I said, DW is committed to interoperability. This means increased support for OpenID users, and guess what? If you have an LJ, you have an OpenID. So when you click post a comment on my DW journal, you'll have the option of logging in as an OpenID user. If you don't already know, your OpenID is youraccountname.livejournal.com . And even better, with Dreamwidth, OpenID users who validate their email can upload up to 6 userpics, and subscribe to journals and communities. This means even if you don't want to come join the cool, you can still effectively read DW users' stuff.
That being said, I really really hope some of you will check out DW and decide to join up. It really is a very cool thing. If you'd like a free account, hopefully I'll have some invite codes soon to hand out!
